Radford Adds Julia Heaps to the Lacrosse Coaching Staff
LAXPOWER News
RADFORD, Va. – Radford lacrosse head coach Haley Marvine announced the hiring of Julia Heaps as her assistant coach. Together, Marvine and Heaps will guide the Highlanders into their first competitive season in 2016. Marvine did not have to look far to complete her coaching staff. Heaps is no stranger to the New River Valley, having played collegiately at Virginia Tech. She started all 17 games as an attacker during her senior season, notching 32 goals, 16 assists and 48 points. Heaps' 46 career assists rank sixth all-time in program history. Following her senior campaign, Heaps was selected to the IWLCA North-South All-Star Game. "I couldn't be happier for our program that Coach Heaps has joined our staff," Marvine mentioned. "Being from Maryland and coaching for a great club team, will provide us with some excellent pipelines in the future. Additionally, her record as a player speaks for itself, and our attackers are sure to gain a lot of knowledge from her experience." In her role at RU, Heaps will be the offensive coordinator and handle recruiting. |
"I am very excited to get started and help Radford lacrosse make an impact in the Big South," Heaps expressed. "I am very grateful Coach Marvine gave me the opportunity to continue doing what I love at the Division I level."
In addition to her collegiate experience, Heaps has worked high-profile lacrosse camps at Duke, Maryland, North Carolina and Vanderbilt. She has also served as a club coach for North East Maryland Select since 2010. Heaps obtained her undergraduate degree in sociology from Virginia Tech in May 2013.
